SECTION 3 = CHANGES TO SBHL PREMIER LEAGUE IN 2025
LEAGUE OPERATIONS CHANGE
The league has changed hands.
After 4 tremendous seasons of running the Premier League, Justin Dentremont has opted to pass on the Premier League to the SBHL.
"Donny" has done an amazing job starting and operating the Premier League over the past 4 season. The SBHL plans to continue to operate the league at the level he created and maintained.
As of 2025, the league has decided to make the following changes to create higher quality games, less full day commitment (which is great for players with families and out of town players), lower league fees
NEW LEAGUE MANAGERS
To create more balance amongst the team we have created 4 New GM/Players to manage and play for their respective teams.
The 4 General Manager / Players that will draft their clubs via players that have registered for the draft.
These are the some of the best players in Province and in the Country.
All 4 have played for Team Canada at the World Ball Hockey Championships.
They are highly competitive and will build their best team.
Who are the Team Managers/Players?
Bucks - Josh Anderson (2024 Gold Medalist - Mens Tier 1 Team Canada - Named Most Valuable Player in the World by ISBHF in 2024)
Snowbirds - Brock Harrison (2024 Gold Medalist - Mens Team Canada 44+ - Team, Back to Back Premier League Champion)
Ravens - Josh Laframboise (2024 Gold Medalist - Mens Tier 1 - Team Canada)
Axemen - Christian Magnus (2024 Gold Medalist - Mens Tier 1 - Team Canada)
LEAGUE PARITY – ALL OUT DRAFT
All Players in 2025 will GO BACK INTO THE DRAFT!
– No Player Contracts!
- No Free Agency
Reason For Changes
REBUILD AND MAINTAIN COMPETITIVE BALANCE
1. Player Draft – ALL PLAYERS IN!
To rebuild competitive balance amongst the 4 teams.
The All our player draft is a fresh new start amongst teams within the league.
2. Contracts & Free Agency Eliminated for at least 2025 & 2026
- The player contracts and free agency were the two biggest factors in diminishing the competitive balance amongst the teams.
- Free agency was primarily dominated by 1 or 2 teams locking up the strongest players for long term. Players usually signed to a long term contract, solidifying an imbalance amongst teams for future seasons.
LOWER FEES
The fees for the season will be drastically reduced!
The cost for the Season will be $95 for the season and $50 to enter the Draft.
(All players will be entering the draft)
* If a player is not drafted they will be refunded their $95 season fee*
1 GAME PER DAY instead of 2
There will only be one game per day, instead of 2 per day (past seasons).
Game days will typically start at 11am or 1pm, instead of starting at 12pm and ending at 9:30pm..
Reasons For Change
PHYSICAL DEMAND ON PLAYERS
-2 games per day was quite taxing physically on players, especially when some teams entered the day with smaller rosters, it was especially tough on the one team that played back to back games
GAME QUALITY
- The premier league features some of the Top Players in the league, which promotes a fast high skilled form of our sport. With two games per day, the speed and skill of the game quickly diminished by each team’s second game of the day
GAME LENGTHS – 3 x 20 MIN STOP TIME PERIODS
Game Lengths are undetermined and will be dictated by number of players entering the draft. If all teams have 18-20 man rosters.
Game lengths will be increased to 3 x 20 min overtime periods
LESS COMMITMENT
The games are tentatively set to be scheduled for 11am or 1pm for teams.
Players no longer have commit to a full day/night of Ball Hockey.
Reason for Change
Having only 1 game per day and the game times being late morning or early afternoon creates great benefit for:
1. Players with families
Players are no longer committed to two games in a day that start at 12pm and can end around 9:30pm. They will have an 11am or 1pm game, finishing early and have the rest of the day to spend with families.
2. Out of Town players
This will be highly beneficial for players travelling from out of town, as they will not be heading home at 9. They will be done their game by 1pm or 3pm. They can play their game and have the rest of day to spend time with families and/or travel back early to their city.
3. Greater Attendance
The case with some teams in the past was players could only commit to one game per day, instead of the two. Team rosters were sometimes diminishing by their second game of the day.
